Toolkit - Apps

Toolkit

There are an exploding number of mobile applications designed for mental health conditions.  They are meant to be used to help you take care of your mental and physical health. They do not replace therapy, medications or healthcare.

When you decide to try an app, the challenge is which to choose.  There are 3 things to consider

1.      How credible it is – whether it’s based on scientific evidence and uses current, correct information about the condition and recommendations it gives and recognizes warning signs and refers you to more help, e.g. suicide.

2.      How easy it is to use

3.      How transparent it is – whether it has policy statements that tell you how they collect your information, who they share it with, where they store data, how protected your data is from others hacking it, whether you will be enrolled in research study and how you can unenroll. Some have statements but they don’t tell you all the details you need to know (these would be listed as ‘questionable’ in the table below.  For these, be sure to read the material and decide whether you want to continue to use the app.

Here are some Apps that are being used by the Cambridge Health system.  They're available from the Google and Apple Stores.
